About Me

I was born and raised in Guatemala City and by the age of five I knew exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up -- a Designer!

My mother was a big influence on my dream. Being a classy dresser herself, she taught me the basics of hand stitching and knitting, as well as good quality fabrics and blends.

Around the same age I started to work on canvas and oil paintings.

Throughout my school years my note books looked more like sketch pads filled with random cartoon characters and storyboards of superheroes and fairy tales.

My first experiments in sewing began at age seven on my grandmother’s ancient sewing machine. From that I moved on to  experimenting with clay, jewellery making, pencils, watercolours, charcoal  and oils.

I grew up with my mother and my uncle.  My mother taught me the basic skills of sewing, cooking baking and budgeting.  Later in life, these teachings were a big help when I started my own sewing and baking business.

At the age of twelve I had my first group of clients to whom I started selling Christmas cookies and muffins.

At age fourteen I made my first two-piece outfit and wore it proudly.  I also started my first knitting project, which to this day is still my favourite blue wool sweater!

By the age of sixteen I was creating personalized greeting cards and jewelry.

From there I experimented with handbags and belts and I used vinyl and leather for the first time.

My uncle was the biggest artistic influence in my life. He taught me the basics of creativity and design.  I have creativity in my blood,  but the knowledge and methods of observing colour are all due to my uncle’s influence.

When I graduated high school I had to choose where to pursue my education in the field of artistic design.  There were very few choices for arts education in Guatemala.  I decided instead to study architecture.  I was exposed to some level of creativity and thought this was a good choice.  However within the first 3 months of school I decided that Graphic Design would better suit my artistic desires.

Eventually I decided to follow my passion, which is Fashion Design. As fashion design is not offered in Guatemala  I applied to a Fashion Design course in Montreal.  I was accepted, and now this new chapter in my life begins.
